Milena Velba In Grey Suit

The Church of St John the Evangelist in Penne

During my stay in pens during the Christmas holidays 2010, I visited the photo exhibition of the Sacred Places Pens at the 'San Giovanni Evangelista Auditorium in old town of Penne.

In my childhood memories, the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista in Penne has always been a place of worship and totally inaccessible. To my surprise the other hand, visiting the exhibition, I could see that the inside of the Church that its exterior have been restored. The result of the restoration is visible in the following pictures that I took during the visit the exhibition:

I wanted to search for information about this church, and I found only something in a book - dedicated to the monuments and the history of pens - made with my teacher (Teacher Lina Frattaroli) and classmates at the time of elementary school. We are talking of the school year 1987/1988, when there were no schools or PC or printer. I remember that we made write total volume hand. You see the spellings of our children, and our unconscious misspellings, made up of difficult long words that are often not fully understood the meaning!
The Church of St. Giovanni Evangelista "Renaissance has two portals, one dated 1594 and another in 1604, respectively, facing the picturesque gardens and the collection of Ascent square. Built of brick in the Middle Ages, it was rebuilt in the Gothic period, which can be mullioned windows and admire the pretty little bows. The apse is shaped like a half decagon. Near the tower there is a square prism with circular windows. The interior has a nave, was converted in 1500. concoct some altars have been found valuable Romanesque frescoes. The side chapels are decorated with stucco and coat of arms of noble families Pennesi. A beautiful wooden statue of 1400, representing a Madonna with Child and a processional cross by Nicola da Guardiagrele are now in the Museo Civico .
